Background of the Study
Examination scheduling is a critical process in higher education institutions, ensuring that students and faculty members are informed about exam dates and locations. Traditional methods of scheduling are often manual, prone to errors, and inefficient, leading to scheduling conflicts, overburdened facilities, and student dissatisfaction. AI-powered examination scheduling systems have emerged as a solution to these challenges, using algorithms to optimize the scheduling process by considering factors such as student course load, faculty availability, and room capacity (Oluwadare & Fakunle, 2024). Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University in Lapai, Niger State, currently faces difficulties in managing exam schedules, resulting in inefficiencies. This study aims to design and implement an AI-powered examination scheduling system to optimize the scheduling process at the university.

Statement of the Problem
Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University struggles with scheduling examinations efficiently due to the manual nature of the process and the complexity of managing multiple variables. As a result, there are frequent scheduling conflicts, room shortages, and delays in communicating schedules to students. The study aims to design and implement an AI-powered examination scheduling system that can automate and optimize the process, ensuring a more efficient and effective scheduling system.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To identify the challenges currently faced in examination scheduling at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.

  2. To design an AI-powered examination scheduling system that optimizes scheduling efficiency and minimizes conflicts.

  3. To evaluate the effectiveness of the AI-powered system in improving the examination scheduling process at the university.

Research Questions

  1. What are the main challenges in the current examination scheduling system at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University?

  2. How can AI be utilized to optimize the examination scheduling process at the university?

  3. What impact will the AI-powered examination scheduling system have on scheduling efficiency and student satisfaction?

Research Hypotheses

  1. The AI-powered examination scheduling system will be more efficient in managing scheduling conflicts compared to traditional methods.

  2. The implementation of the AI system will reduce the number of scheduling errors and improve the overall efficiency of the process.

  3. Students will report higher levels of satisfaction with the examination scheduling process after the implementation of the AI-powered system.

Significance of the Study
This study will enhance the examination scheduling process at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University by introducing an AI-powered system that minimizes scheduling conflicts, reduces errors, and increases overall efficiency. The findings will also provide valuable insights for other institutions considering similar AI-driven solutions.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, and will involve the design and implementation of an AI-powered examination scheduling system. Limitations include potential resistance to adopting AI-based systems and the availability of adequate infrastructure to implement such a system.

Definitions of Terms
